I loved the FD vs R34 battle just for that last scene when they go toe to toe in a downhill drift battle. It isn't just the music and the action, it's all the characters trying to come up for technical reasons why they should be doing it. But then, the Initial D team leader steps forward and explains to the others that "The R34 may have started drifting because its front tires were going, but this ignited a spark in keisuke (the FD driver) who is a stubborn FR driver and won't be beaten in a drift. This in turn led to the R34 continuing to drift and thus, we now have our drift battle...Let us watch these two fools crash their pride against one another on the downhill!"
Sidenote - it is a ton of fun to MST3K the initial D episodes. Get some friends, get some drink, get the series, and get going.

Kz Hoshino says, "Suck it up, noob, I was able to actually control oversteer in a GT-R and not crash it."

You forgot how every race has to be preceded by 5 or 6 episodes of "you have to race!" but "I don't want to!"

That whole scene where that first image was taken is a pretty good summary of initial D

Nah, there's generally a big race split between two episodes. Cliffhangers suck, though.
Every once in a while there's a gross character development episode.
